Africam Safari Puebla

Africam Safari is a Mexican wildlife conservation park located 16.5 km from the city of Puebla, where animals roam in controlled freedom and in captivity. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Africam Safari is the ideal place for people with an adventurous spirit. Here you can live with more than 5,000 animals of 450 species from all over the world.

This is a completely different experience from traditional zoos, as the visitor can enter the fascinating wild world through African-style trails, on a safari-style tour by car or in one of the buses offered by Africam Safari.

The one who will be observed by more than 10,000 eyes will be YOU.

There are several sections where you can drive among giraffes, antelopes, zebras, rhinos, deer, Bengal tigers and lions, among others, in lodges specially designed to resemble their natural habitats.

Seasonal night safaris are organized, with a dance show. It is also possible to organize camps for groups.

Thanks to the environmental and topographic conditions that have been sought for the life of the different species, their adaptation has been achieved and several of them have been able to reproduce inside the park.

Africam Safari Experiences Link

This safari is the only one in the American continent and one of the few in the world.

Captain Carlos Camacho Espiritu, was the creator of Africam Safari. Originally from the city of Acatzingo Puebla Mexico. Man of multiple dreams and achievements.

Carlos Camacho obtained in his youth the American nationality, so he did his military service in the U.S. Army and even obtained the rank of captain and even the title of aviator pilot, which led him to participate in the Vietnam War.

This knowledge of aircraft allowed him to make several trips to Africa in order to bring wildlife to his home in Los Angeles to begin to form a collection of different species, highlighting a Bengal tiger named Raja, which was his favorite, as it was raised by the poblano since he was a cub.

In the United States, Carlos Camacho Espiritu met and married Louise Wardle, with whom he had 9 children, who, due to their father's hobby, grew up among tigers, lions, bears, penguins and more.

After making his fortune, "El Capitán" returned to Puebla with his family and decided to acquire a large piece of land next to the Valsequillo Lagoon, where he kept the exotic animals he had captured on trips around the world in freedom, so when he realized the attraction his collection generated, he decided to create a zoo.

But this place was not like other spaces of the same kind, as he proposed that the animals could coexist and procreate in conditions similar to those they had in their habitat, an idea that finally came to fruition under the name Africam Safari, a combination of the words Africa and Camacho, on April 2, 1972.

On October 28, 1976, Captain Carlos Camacho died, but his work did not. The descendants of that great man continued with the project; first his wife, Louise Wardle de Camacho, and after her death his eight children, who inherited from both parents an infinite respect and admiration for nature.
