The Temple of the Society of Jesus is known as such because it was founded by Jesuit religious. It is also known as the temple of the Holy Spirit or expiatory.
It is located next to the building known as Carolino on 4 Sur Street and Palafox y Mendoza Avenue in the Historic Center of the City of Puebla.
Undoubtedly this is one of the most beautiful churches in the city. Its facade gives the appearance of a beautiful building decorated with white lace.
It was built at the end of the 16th century, when the Jesuits arrived in the city and established five schools for the education of Spaniards and indigenous people.
The temple is one of the most important in the country, this is because there are only two Jesuit temples that were built in the eighteenth century and have great magnitude.
At the entrance there is a talavera plaque that reads:
"In the main arch of this facade, was hung by order of the Inquisition the head of Don Antonio de Benavidez (El Tapado), false visitor of Spain, executed on July 12, 1684".
Of great importance in the interior is the altar which houses a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the marble altarpiece and behind the altarpiece are the 12 Apostles made of quarry stone.
It is worth mentioning that in this church is the tomb of Catarina de San Juan, better known as the China Poblana.
The Jesuits undertook the construction of this temple in 1583, concluding it in 1600, the year of its consecration.
In 1666 Diego Marín, master gilder and architect, whitewashed, gilded and decorated its vaults with plasterwork in the Mannerist style.
The construction of the definitive church began in 1746 by the master architect José Miguel de Santa María, considered a true master of Puebla's baroque architecture.

This temple, completed in the 18th century, stands out for its magnificence, presiding over the small square that gives it a great perspective.
The white of its imposing façade is enhanced by a gray quarry stone portico at the entrance in Italian style framed by the two bell towers.
In its interior, of neoclassical style, the marble altarpiece and the sculptures of the 12 apostles stand out.
The sacristy houses an artistic treasure in the Carnero canvases, and excellent marquetry work in the Mudejar tradition.
She is buried in the Temple of the Company of Jesus in Puebla. There is a tombstone under which the remains of Catarina de San Juan rest, which has earned the place the nickname of "the tomb of the Chinese woman from Puebla".
