Legend has it that many years ago, the Chichimecas, Chalcas and Nahuatlacas lived together with three extremely tall, majestic and imposing-looking priests.
One day, one of the priests went to bathe in a pool of hot water and when he jumped into the water, he disappeared. Those who accompanied the priest, desperate for his disappearance, believed it was the fault of the Chalcas and started a war.
The priest appeared in the middle of the war, but while trying to stop him he was hit by an arrow to the heart. While trying to escape, he left his blood on the road and the earth was painted with its color.
He fell lifeless, buried the entire Chichimeca people with his body, forming the Cerro del Muerto. It is said that the people still hide in its entrails.
